“The strongest human beings, the ones who laugh the loudest and hope the hardest, the ones who are always there for others- those souls often need people there for them. So, please- check on your kind friends.” Bianca Sparacino
This little sage-colored wonky bird, Molly, is admiring the beautiful vase of lovely flowers while hoping for some peace. She is hiding behind the screen because it’s that time in our country when people are talking about politics. It’s an election year which makes Molly nervous. She doesn’t like politics; she doesn’t watch the news; and she especially doesn’t want to be around angry people. She peeks out from her hiding place every now and then to check on her friends and to see how everyone is doing. Molly was just peering out when she spotted her friend, Sally. Sometimes, Sally also ventures out to check on her friends and to spread lavender petals and peace.
Sally follows politics and the news, but she’s not an angry bird. Sally has been completely absorbed in all things political for the last two presidential cycles. She finds comfort in being informed, and she ferrets out all kinds of information from her news sources. Sally often mentions that social media is not the place to get your news. She worries that too many people believe everything they see or hear that reinforces their narrative or position. Sally says that, in this regard, technology is not always our friend because people make money or further their quest for power by posting false or misleading information. It’s difficult to be a discriminating consumer of information in our digital age. Sometimes, Molly asks Sally to explain a segment in the news to her. She trusts Sally, and she also knows that Sally understands that she can only tolerate so much news at one time. She and Sally agree that we all just need to be nice to one another. They both feel it’s important to remember that we should never say anything about someone on social media that we wouldn’t say directly to that person.
Sally always tells people to try to rise above the rhetoric, be kind, and to check in on their friends.
