Miss Abigail
Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the interrelated structure of reality. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Greetings from Miss Abigail. Abi woke up this morning excited to put on her happy face and get together with some friends. As she walked through her hotel lobby, she was happily surprised by this vase filled with bright colorful flowers. These sparkling spokes just seemed like an explosion of particles spinning off from their hubs of connection. They made this wonky bird feel warm and joyful.
As Abi slowed down for a minute to look at this arrangement, her impression of the spokes lead her to muse about some of her friendships, old and new, and how her connectedness to these people enriched her life. As Abi internalized the likelihood that we seem to exist these days in a world of algorithms, hashtags, and followers, she was glad that she had taken time to slow down and experience the value of her human connections. Abi is especially grateful that she chose today to find connections that allow her to escape from the current chaos and find the hope and comfort in the connectedness of these friendships.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. said so well, we can never be our best selves unless we can assure that others can do this as well. Connections are so important in lifting each other up.
In this very political time, I hope we can all find a bit of joy to share with others. The authoritarians win through fear. So, find your people and find your connections. Join Abi in spreading some joy today.
