Joy-Ann Reid
Well, I like the colors in this painting. I am still practicing lettering and I’m not where I want to be yet. But, I’ll keep practicing. I started this painting of Joy-Ann Reid, a journalist I appreciate and follow. The words on the painting belong to her. I started the painting and then googled her and looked up some of her quotes and this one I selected because it just resonated with me. I struggle these days to believe that racism is even a thing in 2020 but, alas, it most certainly is and it is distressing to many of us who just were not aware enough to know that it never really went away in any discernible way. No funny story today, my friends. There is just nothing funny about any of this. I still see many things to be hopeful about but I think we have a long road ahead of us. I long for a more civilized, just, and fair society than the one we have today in our country. I will leave you with another favorite quote of mine and, although I don’t know who to attribute it to, it also just feels right to me. “We may all be in the same storm but we are definitely not in the same boat.”
Best to each of you ….
