Crescents
The ARTifacts Exhibit at the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest opened yesterday. For this exhibit, participating artists were challenged to create an artwork to “interpret” one of ten artifacts chosen from the museum’s collection. I was assigned “Crescents”. Crescents are small pieces of obsidian and other materials which were carved into crescent shapes and were used for a variety of purposes. One use of the crescents was to stun birds. My interpretation was to have some of my wonky desert roadrunners attempting to dodge the incoming objects. The umbrella idea was inspired by a friend – thank you, Mary Kay Bornfleth.
