Meet

Imagine

Imagine all the people
Livin’ life in peace
You
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one. John Lennon

Miss Hazel and Miss Ruby, these two wonky birds, are excited because they are on a mission to share their perception of what they view as a change in our national dialogue. As they are sensitive birds, they shy away from discussing politics. Recently, they have encountered more people who appear happier and more hopeful, even though there is still strife and division in our political discussions. Because Hazel and Ruby are feeling so joyful these days, they hope they can do something positive to help lift people’s spirits even more. They made this banner and were flying over the beach trying to spread some joy. Hazel saw this beautiful large white vase near a cairn and was flying toward it when she realized they were in the middle of a movie set. How fun! Hazel stopped in mid-air.

Being clever birds, Hazel and Ruby knew an opportunity when they saw one. They carefully draped their banner across the vase. As they flew away, they giggled as they were so thrilled thinking their message might reach a much broader audience. They were excited because they hoped that many more people would see their banner and might be inspired to think of things differently. Their wish is that we can imagine political discussions with people who are civil with each other and can discuss issues, even if they disagree. They want us to imagine what it would feel like to see our elected representatives reaching across the aisle and compromising on bills in order to get things done. They want us to imagine our young people being excited about policy issues and then working together to tackle these challenges. And finally, Hazel and Ruby want us to realize that we Americans have much more in common than what divides us.

Hazel and Ruby hope you will join them as they stop to take a deep breath and to imagine the possibility of a brighter future for this great nation we all love. But, although we have so much for which to be grateful, we also have a job to do. We need to talk to family and friends and make sure everyone’s voter registration is up to date. We need to encourage everyone to become informed and to make a plan to vote on November 5. Hazel and Ruby know that we are so lucky to have an opportunity to be a part of this amazing democracy.

Just imagine …
