Wonky Mothers

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms and Grandmas and Nanas and Aunties. I’ve been surrounded with strong, intelligent, generous, loving women my whole life. These women are devoted to being active, participating members of the village it takes to raise up good people.

I celebrate you all today with this little bouquet. I hope you like it. This painting is complicated, like motherhood. It’s colorful in the way children bring color into our lives with their realness. It’s bright as children light up our lives and remind us of the wonder of it all. It’s deep as the reservoirs of our hearts that hold our babies and friends and family dear. And, it’s joyful in the way that only a toddler’s crooked smile can let us know how joy really feels. And, I think it’s sweet – sweet like all the treats we prepare for those we love and sweet like all the memories we create with those we love. And, like all my paintings, this one is bold too. And, as with all my paintings there is a yin and yang embedded as these are always present as we strive for balance in our lives.

I wish a happy day with a soft landing for all the Moms out there. I hope you are connecting with your tribe and I hope you are feeling loved.
